12x12” Japanese inspired pink hydrangea petals

With this piece, I drew inspiration from the Japanese style of art (particularly their cherry blossoms) since hydrangeas originated from Japan. Hydrangeas were used to symbolize apologies, due to a story that an emperor would send his mistress hydrangeas to say sorry for not paying enough attention to her. I also loved the idea of instead of rose petals dropped, that hydrangea petals could also be a romantic gesture.
